Happy Blogiversary! (10 years and counting)

There is something called ‘pre-travel doughnut’ or at least there should be. I am talking about the one you get, after doing all of your last-minute shopping two days before traveling. You are rushing from one shop to another to make sure you don't forget anything. Travel size deodorant, fanny pack to hold your stuff when you’re touristing around, currency exchange to get through the first day after arriving, and many more. And you’ve finished all of those chores and are happy and tired and excited and slightly nervous at the same time. You decide to take a moment to slow down and gather your thoughts. You then go to your favorite coffee place to stay by yourself few hours and have a last doughnut before your trip. Yes, this definitely should be a thing. The more I write, the more sense it makes. I am not a big doughnut person but there are some moments that definitely require a doughnut and this is one of those moments.

So, I have three upcoming trips, each of them on different continents. One of them is a continent I've never visited before. Thus, it is definitely an exciting moment for me. Feeling less nervous this time because I feel like I am getting better and better at this travel prep game. Last night I managed to fit my one-week worth of clothes and other stuff into a backpack, which I’ve never done before. Learning to be more efficient and logical in every step and feeling less anxious due to having more confidence in yourself is definitely priceless. But more importantly, the unknown of the upcoming adventures is exhilarating. I genuinely cannot wait to experience a rollercoaster of emotions miles and miles away from home.  Also, it means more blog posts on the way, hopefully. It is a shame, my last blog post was 5 months ago. But in my defence, I have focused on writing my book, and whenever something floats into my mind, I just write it as a new chapter to my book and hence my blog has been a bit neglected lately. But I still want to keep the ball rolling. Mainly because this has been my first love since September 2013 and even for a shorter update, I still want to keep it alive. Tomorrow is actually my 10-year blogiversary. So here is to many more 10 years!

I TOLD MY STORY!

If you ask me what’s the coolest thing I’ve ever done in my life, I’d say, “Which one? I’ve done so many cool things!” But if you said, “Come on, be serious now,” I’d tell you: the day I told my story. That was the day I felt the bravest, coolest, and most inspired. It all started when one of my close friends invited me to the  TOUCH Network storytelling event. I was like, “Cool, let’s go.” I didn’t have any expectations, good or bad, except that I knew we’d see some farm animals since the event was taking place on a farm. So we went. It was a storytelling event, as advertised, but not just random storytelling. Four people talked about struggles they had overcome in life, how they did it, and what we could take from it. It was basically like TED Talks, but with fewer spotlights and more human touch. If you know me, you know I’m all about human connection, deep conversations, and touchy subjects. So I was so happy when I realized what was going on. I had the most beautiful tw...

What the Pho: My Vietnam Journey

So many things to write about Vietnam… but this won’t be a long one. I just want to keep some practical points on record for the future. Vietnam was my first solo trip after a while, and also my first proper hostel experience. I’ve travelled solo a lot before, and I’ve stayed in hostels before, too. But this time it was just… different. I was truly sad when I left Hanoi. Exhausted after 11 days. Slightly sick. But also, sad. I think it’s genuinely amazing that human beings are capable of moving around the world and making connections. Like, I could literally meet a bunch of people from all around the world, have the most interesting and brave conversations, and then never see them again. Travelling is freeing on so many levels. And I think I’m starting to enjoy the human element of travelling more and more, even more than the “fantastic places” I’ve seen. In Vietnam, I felt that so strongly, and my extroverted side really came out towards the end, which is why I’m grateful. Some storie...
